Forward Air Controller Simulator Accreditation
STANAG 3797 ed.4 states “for Qualification and Re-Qualification training purposes, simulators accredited by NATO may be used to replace a maximum of four live controls annually”. As a result, JAPCC took the lead in 2009 and worked with USJFCOM and ACT to develop the process, accreditation criteria, and methods of assessment and recommendations for implementation within NATO. The JAPCC product: “Concept of Operations (CONOPS) for NATO Forward Air Control (FAC) Simulator Accreditation” provides the basic guidance for NATO member Nations to formally request a NATO team evaluation. Additionally, it outlines basic requirements for accreditation, evaluation criteria, and evaluation team member requirements.
Simulator accreditation will reduce the resource costs as well as improve FAC recurring qualification training for participating NATO nations.
The document was delivered by JAPCC in mid 2009 and has been incorporated in the FAC Capability Branch (Ramstein) Standardization Team SOP.
