JAPCC Air Forum

Support to Air Operations - Airfield Defence

Introduction

Recent ISAF operations have identified that currently there is no NATO
doctrine for the protection of airfields. The JAPCC has, in accordance with
AAP-47, proposed to Allied Command Transformation and the Joint Warfare Centre that a doctrine gap exists and that NATO Force Protection (FP) Doctrine for Air Forces should be developed as a priority. The JAPCC has been
instrumental in establishing FP courses at the NATO School and the next step is the development of FP Doctrine for Air Forces. The development of this doctrine is an endorsed JAPCC project for 2007.
We plan to hold our Spring Air Forum at Kalkar on Thursday 22 March 2007
and the theme will be Support to Air Operations - Airfield Defence. During
the course of the day we aim to provide an overview of current operations and
then initiate the development of interoperable doctrine, training and other FP
capabilities.

Summary of the Spring JAPCC Air Forum on 22 March 2007.

JAPCC’s spring Air Forum was held on 22 March 07 at the new JAPCC Conference Centre with around thirty representatives from sixteen NATO member counties and five NATO HQs. Both the National and the NATO HQ representatives agreed that NATO Force Protection Doctrine for Air Operations is crucial for future NATO Air Expeditionary Operations and that JAPCC should take the lead to develop this doctrine.
