This project was proposed in the JAPCC- SACT Programme of Work 2005- 2007. It has been recognised that there is a need to articulate the relevance of air and space power across the spectrum of current and, particularly, future operations.
The CAFJASO should:
- Expand the NATO CAFJO and be subordinate to it.
- Capture the broad trends in the geopolitical and operational environments and translate these into implications for NATO air power.
- Address the full spectrum of potential NATO operations.
- Link and provide coherence between national and NATO visions, plans and programmes.
- Provide a capstone document with broad guidance and context for other more detailed problem-focussed activities.
- Articulate NATO’s ambition for the effects required from air and space power as part of joint operations.
- Inform national perspectives.
The CAFJASO will support all the ACT transformational goals:
- Effective Engagement & Joint Manoeuvre”
- Enhanced CIMIC
- Information Superiority
- Expeditionary Operations.
- Integrated Logistics
- Network Enabled Capabilities
It will directly address key shortfalls that are noted in the Defense Capabilities Initiative and Prague Capabilities Commitment.
